About

Amelia Jajko is a self-taught Australian painter living and working in Rubibi/Broome, WA. Her work is often inspired by the rugged and remote Kimberley landscape.

Amelia's work draws on the interplay of light, colour relationships, and the texture of rich, buttery oil paint, exploring themes of interconnectedness within the community, the land, and its diversity.

Growing up in the Southwest of WA in a creative family, art was always a part of everyday life. From an early age, she was taught to notice the shifting colours in shadows, the glimmer of light in reflections, and the magic in the ordinary. This way of seeing became second nature and continues to inform her practice today.

Working out of her studio in Broome, Amelia often takes her box of paints outdoors to create smaller works in nature. These paintings have become an integral part of her practice, informing and shaping her studio work. Through the ritual of painting En Plein air, she aims to simply observe and respond, capturing the fleeting qualities of light and colour to convey a sense of freedom and spontaneity in her work.
